Native to Sri Lanka (southern Asia), cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of the tree trunk. The tree can grow up to 15 meters in height. It is largely used in cooking as condiment and flavoring in candies, breads, cakes, pies, creams, compotes and puddings. It is also an ingredient of some sorts of chocolates and liqueurs. As a cosmetic, it makes the hair shine and is used in toothpastes and tanning oils. Symbolically, cinnamon is related to love, and it was used in magic potions and perfumes to attract the loved one. Some believe that cinnamon can bring success to business. In medicine, it is indicated to prevent flatulence, stomach ulcers caused by stress, arterial hypertension, colds, and abdominal pains. Used in massages, the cinnamon oil energizes body, is antiseptic, helps blood flow and is a sexual stimulant. |
