Native of the subtropical region of South America, the tree from which this plant is extracted can grow 12 meters tall. The word “mate” comes from matty, which means gourd in Quechua. In southern part of Brazil, it is part of the local culture, as an ingredient of chimarrão. In the Middle West of the country, it is drunk cold and has another name: Tererê. Yerba mate is a powerful source of nourishing and beneficial properties for health. It helps cleaning the organism and fighting free radicals which lead to body aging. It also eliminates depressive conditions and helps fighting fatigue. In cooking, the yerba is used to prepare candies, ice creams and cakes. |
